Summary
Residual stresses (RS) arising during selective laser melting (SLM) play an essential role for the final mechanical properties and especially the fatigue resistance of the printed metal part. The project is based on best practices but focusses on new approaches to reduce the level of RS, their modelling, and prediction. For the two selected metal alloys, also applied at elevated temperatures, the development of RS will be mapped during optimal heat treatment, yield surface probing, and as well as their development in high-cycle fatigue tests. Performed experiments will be used as a basis for the development of an advanced viscoplastic model that can predict residual stress relaxation and creep behaviour caused by small cyclic plastic strain. This will shed light on the fatigue resistance of additively manufactured parts.
